Accordion Skirt

Happy Weekend everybody.

I find that because I sit on the computer all day at work its really hard to come home and do this blog, even if I have the pictures for a post, actually sitting down to write it takes an extra surge of effort that is usually spent snacking instead.

But here we are on the weekend with a fabulous outfit post (if I do say so myself). I was inspired by the pleated maxi skirts I keep seeing around to root through my mother's old dresses to find this gem! I adore it and am so happy shes going to let me alter it from a tank dress into a skirt.

Unfortunately because this is not yet a skirt, I wasn't able to tuck in the shirt and the belt kept sliding up, giving me an almost pregnant look which I'm not a fan of... Other than that it was really fun to have the long flowy fabric in the wind :)

Hope you had a great weekend!

I am a big fan of this shirt:

Pixie Market shiffon denim shirt 1.jpg_effected

I was alterted to it through http://www.outsapop.com/, which is a super great blog full of totally do-it-yourselfable finds like this one.

How easy would that be?!

I shall file it under "to dos". This is starting to become a very large file...

This shirt originally came from Pixie Market, even though I can't find it on the site anymore you should still go check out thier stuff, its all really funky and decently priced.

Dress Refashion

Hi all,
There has been a bit of a  lag in posting mainly because school has gotten a little more demanding lately and I was away over the weekend.
I wanted to show you a refashion of a dress I have had for quite some time but never wore much because its a little too big for me and hangs down pretty low in the front.
I didn't plan on blogging this so the only pictures I have are from events that I wore it, I hope my friends are ok with their pictures being up here! (I did get them off facebook so its not like they are private anyways :P)

Here is the only one I have of before:

Thats me and by best friend from highschool Tzvia in Cuba. I wore the dress as a beach cover up because it was so over-sized.

You maybe be wondering why I bought it so big? I dont really know, it was on sale and I thought I could fix it at home but It never really got better.

UNTIL NOW!

TADA! I added a pretty ruffle around the neck and wore a black slip (that appears to be fraying a lot)
I think It looks really nice, kinda reminds me of Julianne Moore on the InStlye cover

 I flatter myself ;)

Thats all folks!!

ps. Isnt that the cutest picture of me and the boyfriend? We kinda match :D

Mirror Renew

I had this gold mirror that my dad gave me when I moved out of residence two years ago to brighten up the place. I was bored one day last year and thought I would try my hand at glittering... not a good idea, I ran out of green glitter so the cover wasn't consistent and my room was a mess
Unfortunately it turned out a little garish really and I grew to hate a mirror that I once didn't really think twice about.

I thought about taking a "before" picture after I had already begun taping it up. As you can see I left the gold around the edge when I glittered and will do the same with my next do over

You can see here a little better how uneven the glitter was...

So next plan!

SPRAYPAINT!

I love spray paint, the whole idea of it - so fast to coat, quick drying, total symbol of being a rebel.
The only problem is I am a little trigger happy. I have yet to master the art of many thin coats.

There is the paint I used, got it at Walmart for pretty cheap. As you can see I got it on there pretty thick so it took a rather long time to dry.

If you didn't notice in the previous shot a bit of the paint got bellow the tape on the outside edge. This gave me the idea to do a little "distressing" on the gold part. I used my fingers to rub some of the black paint over the engraved outside and it turned out pretty cool! :)

So for some reason  I didn't take any pictures of it on the wall... But its next to some charcoal drawings of mine and looks pretty darn good!

Thats all for now, Happy Weekend!

Clothing Renew

My first self made outfit post! Well maybe "self made" is a bit of a stretch... the title is more true to reality - I just altered an old dress to make it new again! Yay me!!

Original Dress:

I always thought it made me look a little juvenile

Maybe its not the dress that is juvenile.... :P

Full Length {Silly} Shot!!

"Enough with the before shots already! If it was so bad why do I need to see four pictures of it?!"
I just know this is what is going through your mind right now.
So I'll get moving right along then:

Step 1: use scissors to cut just above the elastic empire waist.
Step 2: you are now the proud owner of a black jersey skirt!

I actually first realised this is what I wanted to do with this old dress when Meagan from ...Love Meagan did the same with one of her dresses she wasnt quite happy with.

Obviously I am happy with my new skirt.

This is just an outfit I through together for the pictures but tonight I have a whole black and gold outfit planned for my house mate's birthday dinner!
